Let's not forget what happened
Let's all take a step back for a second.
Things have happened in the very recent past that we must take time to remember.
It has been nigh on 12 months since the footballing world globally, not just in our country, was rocked to its very foundations by the actions of a handful of men. Very rich men. Very powerful men. Men who don't care about you, me or anyone. They only, solely, care about money.
I am of course talking about the heist of April 2021. This was where 12 rich, greedy owners of huge football clubs from around Europe- half of them were from England- tried to steal the beautiful game from under the noses of the people who love it the most- us... the fans.
I don't need to go into the details of what the horrible twelve wished to do, however, as with most things in the media, it has quickly been forgotten about. Football, it seems, like most things, has a very short memory.
I remember at the time that the clubs involved were threatened with massive points deductions, fines or even being thrown out of the league. I seem to remember the clubs in England received a tiny, lunch money fine for massive criminal misgivings.
Let's ask ourselves what has changed in football. On the surface, I can answer that question very succinctly- nothing. Fans are back in grounds and the Premier League has continued as it always does- under a fan fare powered by Sky TV. Fans seem highly willing to forget just what these clubs wanted to do.
In the end they did not carry out their threats. They only backed down because of the brutal reaction of the people and the media. Let's not thank the Tory Government here as they only condemned as it that was which way the wind was blowing at the time. Subtlety has never been their strongest suit.
Ask yourself that question again. Having had the game completely threatened, within a whisker of it being snatched by rich moguls who couldn't give a damn about ordinary people or clubs' histories and fabrics, what has actually changed? We have had a fan led review into the game... which has achieved what? Largely nothing. These clubs still have huge, unrivalled power within the game which is again being left unchecked.
Be under no illusions, the European Super League, or whatever it was called, may have been shelved in 2021. But this idea will not go away- mark my words. It will be back- sooner rather than later, under a different guise and under a different name. But it will return... because money talks.
