Postman Pat- S1E1- Postman Pat's Finding Day- Deep Dive

When we talk about powerhouses of children's TV, then you can look no further than Postman Pat. Pat, like so many of his counterparts including Fireman Sam, has gone through many incarnations- from the Postman Pat Movie (sadly awful) to the slightly better Special Delivery Service. However, the absolute best of Postman Pat is surely the original- set in the quaint village of Greendale, we follow the life and adventures of a gentle, people loving postman. Makes you proud to be English... You can watch Postman Pat's Finding Day 1981 here Theme tune and backing music The first thing I want to mention is the fabulously relaxing music that is played right the way through the programme. Some wonderful guitar picking and strumming from Bryan Daly- who also wrote the theme tune- however it was sung by the stunningly eloquent narrator Ken Barrie. "There", she said, "how was that?" "Same as usual," he replied, "shi..." "Don't say that word!" she interrupted. "I'm sick of that word!!!" He sat there, paralysed from the neck down- old age and multiple sclerosis had seen to him. He could no longer move a muscle, yet sadly, his razor like, acrid, spiteful speech still remained. She spooned the food into his mealy mouth, dribble falling onto his arm. She'd dealt with these 'remarks' or purely put, atom bombs, that were delivered on a minutely basis for 62 years. I turned the silver metallic key in between my thumb and forefinger. Aaaaaah. It’s gripped. The faithful green shutters whirred into life, rising to the top of the window like the metallic angels they were. I held and paused. They clanked and halted at the top. Sunshine shone in. No that’s a lie frankly. Light shone in. A new day. Moist blobs fell from the sky, settling on the green mossy canvass outside. I looked up at the slate grey sky. It’s raining. Typical. Good for the gardens I thought. Fuck all for anyone else though. I repeated this twice more. The weather was the same through each opening. Dull. Damp. Wet. Northern. The featureless red brick housing, also damp, gazed back at me. We were both looking for answers. None of us could give any. I opened the windows despite the cold. I closed them again. Clonvide rules finished ages ago. I found my worn out blue chair and started.
