University Challenge- more like universally challenged

I do enjoy a bit of University Challenge every now and then. I like the highbrow feel of it that I must be intelligent by proxy for even daring to watch it.  Intelligent I am not. Well, I’m ok in truth, just not clever enough to a) dream about being selected for my university team and even b) focus long enough to understand the questions being asked let alone answer them. Paxman adds another dynamic too. The dynamic that he petrifies me half to death in the way he asks the questions, then scoffs when the contestant gets, like me, nowhere near the answer.  My favourite University Challenge moment, although fictional, was the Young Ones’ appearance. I loved Vyvyan’s Daily Mirror Big Book of Facts on the train journey and then when they stamped through the set when they lost when in reality the teams sit side by side  I hope my kids watch a) University Challenge and b) the Young Ones

Knightmare Childrens ITV

Image
If you remember Knightmare, you must be as old as me and watched the same tv shows!  I remember running out of school on a Friday afternoon- safeguarding children’s welfare was pretty lax by modern standards- jumping into the car and begging my mum to get me home as quick as possible…. Just in time for Knightmare.  Had I waited all week for this show? Maybe. Am I getting overexcited about this show as a 38 year old man? Quite possibly. But I do remember Knightmare being the shizzle.  Set in Middle Ages England, presided over by Treguard- a man who looked suspiciously like Stephen Fry but wasn’t- Knightmare was a computerised science fiction game show set 500 years into the past.  You had to complete mini challenges and puzzles in order to progress to the next room. The twist was that the person in the ‘game’ was wearing a sodden style helmet which completely covered their eyes. Thus they had to be guided by their team which was usually four nerds from Birmingham pushing their specs up

THANK YOU- what is so difficult????

The one  thing that really gets on my nerves is when people don’t say thank you. There I’ve said it. It is the most annoying thing on planet Earth. Not to mention the rudest too.  It simply boils my brain when people refuse to say thank you! Have their mothers not raised them right???  How can they think this behaviour is justified or justifiable?!  Do they think they are above me and therefore that I do not deserve a thank you?  We’re not talking huge gestures here. I only expect a little head nod- or even a little hand raise! Is a hand raise too much for some people?!  How could you be so arrogant to not say thank you? How could you be so insensitive? How could you be so unkind? Honestly!    I was on my evening walk when someone or some people- refused to say thank you after I let them pass… one of them was a policeman! I hope it made him feel big. Can’t say I ever wanted to join his majesty’s constabulary anyway but now… I will actively DISCOURAGE people from joining! See how they

Utter scam from British Gas- when will people wake up?

It is getting so cold at night but those miserable bastards at British Gas and the government see fit to charge people literally the same amount as a modest second mortgage just to pay gas bills. British people need to see through this utter scam with which we are living.  British Gas bought the current gas they are flogging when the prices were much cheaper so it is basically a licence to print money. Meanwhile the poor in society choose between heating and heating. Supposedly anyway. I’m sure their gas bills will more than likely be paid by us the taxpayer. So it’s the low wage earners I feel sorry for- the ones who don’t qualify for any help.  Very icy where we live- has been like this since Saturday. The ice is like broken glass and shows no sign of abating

A miserable walk

I walked tonight in the pouring rain with my trusty umbrella. What a miserable walk it really was. 3 miles of endless trudging in the dark and damp drizzle.  I didn’t actually get wet but my Achilles was killing

Journaling

So I’ve started journaling.  It’s a great way to collate my thoughts, feelings and drawings.  I don’t journal every day and nor do I feel the pressure to journal daily. Just when I feel like journaling  The world is stressful enough- doing jobs to serve billionaires- without adding to that stress myself.
